Eagle Brae Log Cabins in the heart of Scotland – Luxurious, Rustic, Sustainable and Wild

I am always short of words when it comes to describing the wilderness of Scotland.  The raw beauty of this country rings echo in the quiet valleys. The magnanimous munros and it’s deep lochs depicts a certain eerie in the landscape.

You cannot finding something like this in any other country. And staying in a perfect accommodation in the Scottish Highlands will manifold the experiences you encounter in the wild.

Scottish Highlands are known for such picture perfect beauty on any given day (Trust me when I say this – even in a bad weather, the landscape looks stunning!).Recently we were exploring Invernesshire, and we stayed in Eagle Brae Log Cabins. 

The cabins of Eagle Brae are nestled in between the valleys of Glen Affric and Glen Strathfarrar. When we first received the email invitation from Eagle Brae, we visited their website to gain more information.

We were completely mesmerized by the work they’ve done to re-create the same wilderness that you find in the northern highlands. 

Eagle Brae and the team has done everything to make it a unique luxury accommodation in Scotland.   Ever since then we were so keen in meeting the people who created this, and wanted to experience our stay at Eagle Brae.

Where is Eagle Brae? 

Nestled in the quiet and remote valleys of Struly, Eagle Brae is only 30 minute drive from Inverness, and 10 minutes away from the town Beauly. 

With a sprawling 8000 acres, and only 8 hand cut red cedar-wood cabins, you are in for a total wild and serene adventure.

Mike and Pawana are the owners behind this, and a sheer 8 years of hardwork has gone into realizing their dream in creating a luxury accommodation in the midst of wilderness in Scotland – Eagle Brae, their brainchild!

They are a very modest, down to earth couple and very warm host. Together, they have created this magical landscape and heaven redefining self-catering accommodation to another level. You got to go and see to believe me.

The log cabins of Eagle Brae are nothing like the ones you might have experienced earlier in the log cabins/holiday resorts.  Each of these cabins are scattered across the hill either with a little pond, or a view of a loch that you can savour from the sitting room.  

Frequent visitors to the cabins include the local ducks, many birds, red deers and stags, and their Swiss Bernese dog Kyla.

Interior Architecture

The cabins are spaced out very well. The interiors of the cabins are tastefully and ergonomically designed and decorated. It gives you a classic combination of sense of wilderness and the feel of luxury that you get staying at home with all the modern appliances.  So much of thought has gone into creating such a niche space and design.

Using the traditional craftsmanship from British Columbia in hand-cutting the giant cedar woods gives a superb touch to the log cabins with open plan. This is coupled with high cathedral ceiling, and mezzanine floors.

Hand-owen textiles from Himalayas adore the interiors as curtains. Rugs and blankets are made from Scottish sheep and lamb wool.

Central chandelier is made out of stag horns and intricately carved out with celtic design wooden panels from Himalayas. All these little things show how much of personalized touch has gone into creating such a unique environment.

Facilities

The underfloor heating and the log wood burning in the sitting room gives you a warm welcome and a cosy atmosphere in the cabin.

The kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, utensils and cutlery that suit any cooking.  And the extra touch is that you are provided with the basic coffee, tea, sugar, salt, oil stuff for cooking unlike other self-catering cottages.

You also have high speed wi-fi, a nice office space with computer and printer that will create a little work space, and satellite TV.  As an extra touch, the owners provide concierge service by making home-cooked meals if the guests are in no mood to cook.  

The guests are left with a lovely complimentary hamper in the willow-wood basket that include shortbread, oatcakes, chutney and jam varieties, organic ale, and malt whisky.

We stayed in one of the larger cabins Loxia that has its own private pond surrounded by birch trees. The cabin sleeps 6 with a double bed, a twin room and 2 separate beds in the mezzanine floor.  

There is a spacious bath/toilet in the ground floor, and a shower/toilet attached to the double bedroom in mezzanine floor.  All the toiletries are eco-friendly products.

Closer to Nature

There are plenty of activities to do out and about Eagle Brae.  Walking, kayaking, golf, hiking the munros, visiting the glens, bird and wildlife watching and more.

We spotted a couple of Golden Eagles on our way to Glen Stathfarrar, and a herd of red deers gazing happily. At night, it is a perfect spot for star gazing and in winter, you might get lucky and witness northern lights!

Conclusion

If you are looking for quirky, off-beat, and unique accommodation without wanting to miss the luxury, Eagle Brae is the place to be. It’s strategic location near Inverness and proximity to most untouched natural beauties of Scottish Highlands makes it a compelling choice of accommodation.  

Throw in the wilderness and beautiful wildlife at the doors of your cabin, mixed with hospitality from the hosts Mike and Pawana, you cannot ask for anything better than Eagle Brae to relish and enjoy your holidays.  

All you’ll carry from here are the picture perfect memories, and a heart never wanting to leave the place!
