Magnificent Aira Force Waterfalls in the Lake District National Park

posted in: England | 8

Aira Force Waterfalls is one of the most magnificent waterfalls in the UK. Snug amidst a dramatic woodland in Lake District National Park, Aira Force Waterfalls has attracted visitors for centuries.

Lake District National Park is a piece of haven dotted with placid lakes and rolling hills. Did you also know that Lake District is also home to many hidden waterfalls. No wonder it inspired many poets to create their best work.

Aira Force Waterfalls

Aira Force Waterfalls in the Lake District is one of the magnificent waterfalls hidden in the lush greenery of the Ullswater valley with the backdrop of unspoilt scenery.

As the torrents of water plummet from a precipice of moss-covererd rocks, they create a symphony of sound, a harmonious melody that echoes through the tranquil embrace of the surrounding woodland. Each droplet, glistening in the dappled sunlight, tells a story of past, of the timeless interplay between earth, water and sky.

The rainwaters run into Aira Beck from the nearby fells and drops at 67 feet high.

Aira Force Walking Route

The walking trail begins at Aira Force Car Park.  The circular path (2.1 km loop) is the most popular and easy choice of walking trail. As you walk into the woodland, under the canopy of trees, amidst gorges, you witness one of the best waterfalls in UK.  And you’ll understand why this waterfall has inspired many poets for more than 200 years.

The trees in the forest area are the coniferous and himalayan firs some of which were planted in 1800s forming the tallest trees in Cumbria. There are bridges which serve as a viewing platform both at the top and bottom of the waterfall, making the waterfall even more iconic.

There is also a bus from Pooly bridge that goes from penrith through to patterdale it will stop off just outside the waterfall if that’s any help. I used to work in one of the local villages for a couple of summers.
