History and uniqueness

The hotel goes by the tagline “Big enough to serve you, small enough to know you”, and it is quite apt.  Created in a traditional Scandinavian architecture, the building dates back to 1660.  It has been hotel since then and welcomed thirsty travellers who pass by through this gorgeous village. Although the present building goes back to 1860.

The Location

Located in the sleepy little town of Charlottenlund, only 7 kms away from Copenhagen (roughly 20 minutes by bus to city centre), this is a whole world away from the buzz of the city between forest area and sea.  The hotel is in the opulent suburb surrounded by fisherman houses, overlooking the sea.  On a clear day, you can see the Oresund bridge.

Restaurant

The hotel has a lovely back garden where they grow their own organic vegetables.  The restaurant is very famous and takes pride in being only hotel in Scandinavia to be recommended in Guide Michelin for the last 3 years.  The head chef of the restaurant is Phillippe Houdet who has won Michellin star award churned out the best food.  You can have the food inside, or at outdoor terrace or glass conservatory.  Alluring menu and exotic taste blend to give the best gastronomic experience here.

As vegetarian travellers, we found this hotel served amazing and tasty food from the locally grown produce.  The food that we had were absolute tasty, and there’s a signature element that still linger in our mouth.  Be it the Rye bread, or grilled vegetables with fermented sauce, or the tasty dessert. Very few restaurants have made us feel this way, and Skovshoved tops that. Only downside being the portions seemed very less.

Conclusion

Overall it was a very positive experience, the stay being comfortable,  staff members being very friendly and provided attentive service.  It felt like a home away from home, and the convivial environment just added so much more comfort to the stay.

This is an ideal choice of hotel for those who want to stay close to nature as well as the city.  Although it sounds like a far away place from Copenhagen, the bus that stops right in front of the hotel takes you to the city in less than 30 minutes.
